200 Hour Hatha Flow Yoga Teacher Training

This training is designed to equip you to deliver Hatha flow based Yoga in a specific 'Trauma Informed' manner. Teaching using the Raw approach helps you invite your students and participants to explore their own modifications, options and variations. This means that your students will get to know themselves from the inside out, so that they can reclaim the right to move in a way that feels free and empowering.

 

Trauma Informed Yoga is not a ‘niche’ style, it is an approach to teaching any style of yoga in a more inclusive, empowering, caring, kind and aware manner.

This training will equip you to teach flow style yoga (eg Hatha and Vinyasa) and slower styles of yoga (eg Subtle or ‘Slow Flow’). We have designed this course to train you in a way so that you can easily adapt to the style of yoga you love to practice and/or want to teach.

    Our training is designed to take you deeper into yourself and your practice, allowing the time and space for you to explore asana, pranayama and meditation to discover what yoga really means to you. We spend time on learning and establishing reflection tools to help you cultivate greater self awareness.

  • Teach with Confidence and Integrity.

    If your goal is to become a practicing teacher and get out there to teach a class right away, we will give you all the opportunities to build the necessary skills and confidence to teach a great Vinyasa, Hatha or Slow Flow class. If teaching is not your top reason for doing a training, then the confidence and self-awareness that you develop from practicing to teach is invaluable in the world.

  • Foundations of Flow

    The course is designed around a Vinyasa practice (Flow Yoga) but, with the variety of influences and trainings we have had, we will provide you with the tools to vary your sequencing and presentation to cater for teaching to service a wide variety of styles, students and environments.

  • Connect with Like-Minded People.

    We keep our training groups small at around 10-15 students so over the course of the time we spend together you have the opportunity to connect and create a community of yogis that can continue to support you. Many life-long bonds and amazing friendships have been forged on our trainings over the years.

  • Ongoing Support and Mentoring

    At the completion of the course you will qualify for ongoing mentorship with our team which gives you the opportunity to receive support, professional development and feedback from the trainers beyond the scope of the 200 training hours.

The Raw Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training Journey.

  • Asana Focus Sessions.

    In pairs, small groups and individually we explore and examine the physical postures mindfully, helping to develop your own cues and language, establishing a base for your own unique teaching style.

  • Introduction to Yogic Philosophy.

    Read and reflect on Patanjali’s 8 fold path of yoga, focusing on understanding the underlying ethics known as the Yamas and Niyamas and much more..

  • Energy Bodies and Yoga.

    Explore the basic principles of the energy bodies and how they relate to yoga. We will look at Chakras, Nadis, and other aspects of the human energy field

  • Foundational Anatomy.

    Learn the foundations of anatomy and physiology that relate to breathing and postures. We will also introduce the concept of the fascial system and how it relates to Yoga.

  • Approaches to Meditation.

    Learn the differences in Meditation Styles and how to incorporate them into your practice, along with the basic formula for the restorative practice of Yoga Nidra.

  • History and Traditions.

    Explore the multi-faceted lineage of modern yoga to understand where things have grown from and when & why they have shifted and changed.

  • Modern Science.

    Examine some of the more recent research from neuroscience and biology behind how and why yoga works as a tool for relaxation, rehabilitation and concentration.

  • Practice, Practice, Practice.

    From day one you will begin to practice the art of teaching Yoga in 1 on 1, small group and class settings. Even if you don't plan to teach yoga after the training, this experience will bring you more confidence and awareness of your own practice and yoga journey

  • Specialisation and Scenarios.

    Learn tools for dealing with injuries and other conditions you will encounter in group classes. Explore how understanding different styles of yoga can help you develop a niche.

 

Meet the Trainers

  • Nicole Allan

    Lead Trainer & Key Facilitator

    Nicole initially trained as an early childhood educator and has a Bachelor of Education from Auckland University. Though she loved the theory and learning, teaching five days a week in early childhood centre did not resonate. While teaching early childhood she was introduced to Yoga and started practicing about one a week. Not long after this, she left New Zealand and spent several years travelling, still maintaining a (very minimal) yoga practice while working in France through ski seasons. Nicole's first real introduction to the complex nature of being human and what the spiritual path could offer came after her first 10 day silent Vipassana meditation. Nicole then ended up travelling to India, where everything changed, she learnt more about yogic philosophy and decided Yoga Teacher training was the next step. Returning back to NZ, she trained at The New Zealand School of Yoga under Mike and Sharon Byron-Mckay. The training was of B.K.S Iyengar style and was full time for a year. She qualified as a registered Yoga teacher with a 500RYT + Introduction to Yoga Therapy.

    During this time her interests were expanding, including her interest for her own healing and self discovery. Over the past 10 years training has never stopped, this includes: Reiki level 3, Yoga Nidra level 2, Acro Yoga Teacher Training, 200RYT Vinyasa Teacher training, Trauma Informed Yoga (TCTSY), Diploma of Counselling and Psychology, Online Trauma Training with Peter Levine, Online Somatic Trauma training with Albert Wong, Psych-K level 2, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Level 2, Hanna Somatics Level 1, Online 50hr Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark , Rainbow Kids Yoga, Online Subtle Yoga Teacher Training with Kristine Weber, Eden Energy Medicine Level 1, Soul Speak certified and Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate.

    Nicole is currently training to become a 900hr IAYT Certified Yoga therapist.

    Nicole's passion is cultivating Radical Awareness, through the tools of self reflection. She believes the process of getting to know ourselves is the journey to freedom and that this happens in the most loving and empowering way through a Trauma Informed Perspective. Our physical bodies, our minds, our emotions, our spiritual connection are all intimately interconnected and in essence need to be addressed as one to truly come home to ourselves.

  • John Allan

    Trainer & Key Facilitator

    From a passion of wanting to understand how things work, wanting to understand why, and wanting to create beautiful solutions, John has explored numerous careers and interests. His interest in technology led him to work in the world of printing, photography, design, signage and graphics where he spent nearly 10 years. John's passion for the environment then led him to study Landscape Architecture, where he achieved an Honours Award BLA (excelling in research), while concurrently studying, tutoring and volunteering in Permaculture. John began working in the fast paced corporate environment of the Architecture world and working through a divorce while co-parenting 2 young boys - so his newly found Yoga practice became a necessary solace. As the internal space grew, so did a passion for understanding why and how it was happening.

    ​​When John met Nicole she was already teaching Yoga and looking for a premises to open the Raw Yoga Studio, so he was involved in the creation process from the beginning.     John is passionate about understanding the Body-Mind construct through the process of 'everyday researching' using the tools of Meditation, Philosophy, Movement together with an exploration of the intersection of Ancient Wisdom and modern Scientific and Somatic understanding. He believes that understanding how trauma effects our everyday lives holds the key to bringing about more kindness, compassion and unity in our relationships and ultimately the world at large

The Raw Yoga Trauma Informed Teaching Principles.

These Ten Principles are the foundation of everything we do, from teaching to teacher training to living life, these principles are at the core of how we choose to interact with the world.

 

1. Do your own work first.

Awareness takes practice, and is the key to transformation and healing.

 

2. Everybody experiences trauma

Trauma stores in the physical, mental and emotional bodies.

3. Know your breath, know your body, know your story, know your practice.

Get to know yourself from the inside out.

4. Regress to Progress

Embodiment takes mindful recognition of when to pull back, and when to move forward with grace and humility.

 

5. Their body, their alignment.

Everybody’s story is different, therefore requires a different path. Cues, not Rules.

6. Inclusion to empowerment.

Pay attention to your intention, everyone is sacred and worthy.

7. Observation is your greatest Teacher.

Learning comes from the quiet mind listening and paying attention.

 

8. Move from gross to subtle.

Subtle awareness takes practice, be patient with yourself and your students.

9. Invitation and choice at every opportunity.

Invitational language and correct dosage of choice leads to trauma informed teaching.

10. Through Self-led discipline comes true freedom.

Everybody can eventually discover their own unique system of practice.
